The Beauty Box
The Beauty Box is a mobile neighborhood performance center that is the first of its kind temporary structure used to change in urban neighborhoods by highlighting their community history and discussing the issues of its residence.The Beauty Box brings in selected artists, including visual, performance, film, children's programing and a popular concert series that pairs talented local artist with national artist from the same city. The Beauty Box was created in 2013 and has proven that a temporary community type center changes the civic dynamic in neighborhoods that have been without a community voice or meaningful interactions. Thousands of people from Houston's historic Third Ward community responded overwhelmingly positive to the Beauty Box's community platform and achieved tangible results in the form of neighborhood clean up, social interaction in a safe environment for its 2013 inaugural installation.
